September 19th is the day...

As I write this, it's hard to believe that Wednesday, September 19th is the last market of the season.  It's been a tough year for most farmers - lack of rain - damaged crops - but we've all hung in there and been thankful for the fresh produce and berries the farmers have been able to bring to market!  It almost makes this fresh grown food taste that much 'sweeter'.

We so appreciate the support of our customers - our local following - thank you for coming out this season and we look forward to seeing you today and the following two Wednesdays.

Bring your friends.  Make an evening out of it.  Enjoy the weather while you can.  As we all know...for Illinois...that the cold, snow is off in the distance...

Green Acres Herb Farm

This week, we are showcasing Green Acres Herb Farm a regular vendor at the Heights Farm Market who has been with us since the beginning!

Owner: Don and Caroline Schertz

Farm Address:  1675 County Road, 1200 E, Lowpoint IL 61545
Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/GreenAcresHerbFarm
Blog:  http://greenacresherbfarm.wordpress.com/

Vendor Information: We ran a craft type business for a number of years, growing and using dried flowers.  We gradually added herbs and cut flowers and now include heirloom vegetables.  We went from 6 plants in an old chicken house foundation to two greenhouses, two cold frames, 5-1/2 acres of plasticulture and a new farm shop.  We have a wide variety of heirloom vegetables, specializing in over 40 varieties of heirloom tomatoes.  We do not use chemical based pesticides or fertilizers.

This is a farm family operation with several grandchildren helping Caroline and Don (us).  With their help, we now grow over 400 varieties of herbs, have a farm shop and an online book business with over 2000 titles of new, used and preloved garden books - some books dating as far back as 1850 A.D.

Visitors are welcome to come see our operation.  Come check us out!

Do you take Advance Orders: Yes, when in season.

Opening Day 2012!

Opening day for the Heights Farm Market is nearly here - tomorrow - Wednesday, June 13th - begins the new 2012 season.  For an intimate farm market that started a handful of years ago, completely run and operated by farmers and local producers (without business sponsorship), we are THRILLED when opening day approaches each year!  2012 is no exception.

Why are we thrilled?  Because the market's success is due to our customers, pure and simple.  Thank you for coming out and supporting local produce and local products each Wednesday.  We truly appreciate you and we will continue to be here - bringing fresh farm grown Illinois fruits, vegetables and flowers as well as locally made Illinois products for as long as you will have us.

Bring a friend and enjoy the afternoon and early evening out at the market - see you tomorrow!
